August 20, 2015:
The countdown to the swim-a-thon has begun!

I've gotten some great feedback and hope to answer some questions that I've been hearing...

Donations: Each participant is responsible for getting their own donations by reaching out to family and friends and asking them to donate to their team. Please feel free to use the sample email (or letter) below:
----------------------------
Dear Family and Friends -

I am writing to you to let you know that on Wednesday, August, 26th I will be participating in Chelmsford Swim and Tennis first ever Swim-A-Thon. We are doing this event to raise money for a charity called 50 Legs.

What is 50 Legs? 50 Legs is a non-profit organization that helps children, adults, war heroes or any amputee in need receive high quality prosthetics that they could not otherwise afford, to help them live a happier and healthier life. Since just January, 50 Legs has donated 24 prosthetics to candidates in need and the wait list continues to grow.

I am asking you to support me in this effort by going to 50legs.org and selecting the Chelmsford Swim-A-Thon link. I am on team ____________________. Thanks in advance for considering donating to this special cause.
----------------------------

This is NOT your traditional "sponser by lap" swimathon! The format is that each team will swim for their allotted amount of time (13 and over: 1 hour, 12 and under: 30 minutes) and only one member of each team swims at a time (similar to a relay). Each individual team can decide how they want to break it up...maybe each swimmer swims 200 yds at a time or 25 yds and each swimmer does not have to swim an equal amount of laps so it is very flexible. We really want to make this a fun, no-stress, no-pressure kind of event!
We are very excited to add to our list of raffle items:

From yesterday's email:
gift cards to Evviva and Burton's
1/2 hour lesson at Seth Ditchard Golf School
vouchers from NSSC and ACES
tour of Channel 5 News
New items:
gift card to Brother's Butcher
Scratch card gift basket
birthday party at Goldfish Swim School
beer/wine baskets
gift card to K&B Sportswear (vendor at champs)
Isogenix products
"Pilates Party" for 5 at Endurance
1 hour photography session
Scout Bag raffle basket
voucher to Simply Fit gym
...hopefully more to come!

We are also in the process of putting together some fun raffle baskets for the kids as well!

Thank you to those who have already donated raffle items and also those of you who have offered to volunteer to help on Wednesday. We hope to have a great turnout and lots of fun...stay tuned for more info as we get closer to the big day!

Thanks,
Karen

We are so excited to see more and more donations being made on the 50legs website. It's as easy as going to www.50legs.or and clicking on the Chelmsford Swim and Tennis link and supporting either a team or individual. I would like to encourage each of the participants to reach out to friends and family and ask them to support this great cause.

All of the teams that have signed up so far should be on the website and if you haven't signed up yet IT'S NOT TOO LATE! Please either sign up in the lobby or email me at karen.blagg@comcast.net with your team name and the names of each participant.

We are excited to announce that many great donations have been and continue to be made for the silent auction including:

July 28, 2015:
Here are some final details concerning Championships on Saturday from Lou DiStasi.

We wanted to send out a final note to let all members know what to expect on Saturday…as it will be a unique day for our membership. Below is a crash-course for what you need to know.

One final note before we get into the logistics for Saturday, we are still in need of 2 bullpen volunteers (one for the first half and one for the second). If you would like to volunteer for one of these spots with a friend, that is fine (each of you can do a quarter of the meet). Chelmsford is currently the only club without all race volunteer positions filled. So please consider helping…you can contact Lou DiStasi (ldistasi@comcast.net) or signup on volunteer spot. Volunteer parking pass raffle will take place on Thursday and passes will be distributed Friday.

Ok…onto Saturday:

Times:
People will begin arriving at CS&T around 7:00am or a little before. Warmups are at 7:30 and the meet begins at 9:30. The meet will likely end around 4:00. In addition to Saturday, the club will be allowing other clubs to setup tents on Friday afternoon from 2:00-4:00. We will also be doing a lot of setup on Friday evening (including removing lounge chairs from the pool deck). Please feel free to set up your own tent on Friday as well (Chelmsford will be located near the back fence on opposite side of the clubhouse).

Parking:
During the meet, no member will be allowed to park at CS&T unless you have a parking permit (even if you are just coming down to play tennis). If you do not have a parking pass, you can park at Byam where a bus will be shuttling people to and from. Please DO NOT park in the cul-de-sac on Blaisdell as the bus will be dropping people off there and will not be able to make that turn with cars parked there.
Additionally, parking is NOT allowed on Robin Hill Rd. Chelmsford police and CS&T volunteers will be monitoring these areas to ensure that no one is parking there.

Bathrooms/Locker rooms:
During the meet, members will NOT have access to the bathrooms and changing rooms. There will be portapotties set up in front of the building. Bathrooms will be roped off and reserved for coaches and volunteers. We apologize for this inconvenience, but there will not be exceptions to this.

Food:
Caters will be on-site with food. We will have Elena’s café serving breakfast items (coffee, bagels, muffins, juice, water, and fruit), Bianco’s will serve lunch items (hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, chicken, etc.), and Hawaiian Ice will serve slush and popcorn. The grills will NOT be available during the day.

Programs/T-shirts/Raffles:
Programs will be available for $4 (cover designed by CS&T swimmers!). Also, we will have T-Shirts for sale (short sleeve are $12 and long-sleeve are $20)…they look awesome too! Finally, there will be raffle baskets that each of our swim families have been donating to. There will be several great baskets. Please support all of these activities…all proceeds will support the club!

Thanks…and let’s have a great race!

Tomorrow at noon will be the final game of the Wiffle Ball tournament. Thanks to everyone who participated for another great tournament!

Finally, instead of doing pizza for dinner at the pep rally on Friday, Mrs. Dechiara will be organizing and cooking for a pasta dinner during pep rally. The cost per person is $5 and a family is capped at $20. Please sign up your family on a sign up sheet in the lobby so we know how many people to expect.

July 26, 2015:
Hello Members,

We have a busy and exciting week coming up!

To start it off, there will be Diving Championships held at Westford on Monday July 27. Warm up begins at noon, and the meet begins at 1pm. Anyone is welcome to help cheer on our divers!

On Tuesday, there will be the last pizza lunch beginning at noon.

On Thursday, there will be the last hot dog lunch beginning at noon.

On Friday, we will be taking the team photo and we will hold the pep rally. We will be closing the pool at 3:30 to begin setting up for the team picture. Please arrive by 3:45 with the team suits so that we can take the team photo promptly at 4. We will then be selling pizza and beginning the pep rally at 5. Remind your kids to start thinking about a funny skit!

We would also like to decorate the club for Championships on Saturday. If anyone is interested in helping decorate the club after the Pep Rally ends, please reply to this e-mail. We will be making posters and hanging streamers (etc.)

On Saturday, CS&T will be hosting the Championship meet. Warm up begins at 7:30 and the meet begins at 9. It would be best to arrive at the club early, as there will be many people here and it will be difficult to find a chair. The meet will be long, so be sure to pack plenty of food, water, and sunscreen!

We also will be hosting the annual swim and diving team banquet Saturday night. We are planning on starting the banquet around 5:30 or 6, depending on the end time of the meet.

If you have not yet signed up to volunteer at the meet, there is still time! Consider signing up, we need all the help we can get!

Additionally, we are still accepting donations for the Hospitality Tent. Please sign up on Sign up Genius by using this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F49A4AD2AA75-championship/3989814

Please let me know if you have any questions!
July 26, 2015:
To all members,

We will be hosting our First Annual CS&T Swim-a-Thon this summer on Wednesday, August 26th from 4-8pm. We are very excited for our club to take part in giving back to the community. The charity we have chosen to support this summer is 50Legs which helps provide funds for amputees. This foundation has saved lives in the sense that it has given amputees the opportunity to walk, run, swim, and do activities that they thought they may never do again. If you go to www.50legs.org, you can see videos of many of the amputees they've helped. On Monday morning, one of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings, Celeste Corcoran, will be visiting our club to talk about how 50Legs has been instrumental in giving her the ability to walk (and run and SWIM) again.

Why 50Legs? As some of you may know, I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 and my family was at the finish line watching the race directly in front of Marathon Sports. As I crossed the finish line, they moved away from this spot minutes before the bombs exploded. They witnessed the horror and devastation first hand while I was in the medical tent (feeling horribly sick from the race). I heard the explosion and then moments later saw each victim as they were brought into the tent. I had no idea what had happened and I waited in fear that the next person brought in would be one of my family members. This moment in time will haunt me for the rest of my life and I feel so incredibly fortunate that we made it home safely that day. Just the other day as my son Ryan and I were driving into Boston for his basketball game, he said to me "Mom, I feel like what happened at the marathon is like a scar…it will get better but it will never really go away." Selfishly, I want my kids to have the opportunity to feel like they can help the people who were injured in the bombings and those who have lost limbs to disease, war, etc. I truly believe that many of the families here at the club have been affected by what happened on April 15, 2013.

The format we will be using is different than the traditional swim-a-thon you may be familiar with. We will be asking members to form teams with friends, family, etc. (participation is open to all and not limited to swim team members). Teams that are 13 and over will swim as many laps as possible in one hour and teams 12 and under will swim for 30 minutes. PLEASE START FORMING YOUR TEAMS NOW AND SIGNING UP YOUR TEAM IN THE LOBBY. Prizes will be given to the teams that swim the most laps, raise the most money, and also the team that has the best costume. We will also be holding a silent auction for the adults and raffling off items for the kids.

We are in the process of setting up our own page (CS&T Swim-a-thon) on the 50Legs website where you can make your donation (donations can also be made by check if preferred). More information to come!

We are hoping that this will be a really fun night and an opportunity for everyone to get together once more and do something great for the community before school starts back up.

I look forward to meeting with everyone tomorrow in between practices (at 10am) to talk more about this exciting event and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks,
Karen

July 24, 2015:
All,

Next Saturday (August 1st), CS&T is hosting the Colonial League Championships. All 5 swim teams will call our club home for the day. As you can imagine, this is a pretty big event that requires a lot of extra effort from a lot of people. We have many groups of people that have been working behind the scenes for the past 6 weeks to make sure CS&T shines on August 1st. With all that said, we still need a lot of help. This is the last opportunity to volunteer if you have not fulfilled your requirements…and even if you have…we still need your help (this only happens once every 5 years)!!! If that isn’t incentive enough, we also have 35 parking passes that will be 100% allocated to volunteers (we will do a raffle for those that are volunteering). If you do not have a parking pass, you will not be able to park at CS&T.
Below is a list of specific volunteering assignments needed (some have already been filled…thanks)…you can sign up at: http://vols.pt/ET43Xm :
· 4 timers for both first and second half (8 total positions)

· 1 bullpen attendant for both first and second half (2 total positions)

· 1 ribbon writer for both the first and second half (2 total positions)

· 1 runner for events 43-62

· 2 Computer Input volunteers for both first and second half (4 total positions)

· 5 T-shirt sales (broken out in 2 hour shifts…almost all positions filled)

· 5 Raffle Basket Sales (broken out in 2 hour shifts…almost all positions filled)

In addition to in-person volunteers, we also need donations. Some of those donations are goods (water, Gatorade, snacks, etc.) and others are items to be borrowed (coolers, tables, tents, etc.). Many of these items can be found at: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0F49A4AD2AA75-championship/3989814

Thank you all for your help. This is truly an all-hands on-deck event!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Lou DiStasi (617-756-9210 or ldistasi@comcast.net).

We are looking for volunteers to help donate or run the hospitality tent at Championships this year. If you are interested in helping, consider signing up! You can sign up with this link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0F49A4AD2AA75-championship/3989814

Additionally, in past years we have used a white sheet to project the movie for the dive in movie. While this works just fine, we were wondering if anyone who had a portable projector screen would be willing to let the club borrow it for the evening on Thursday for the dive in movie. Please let us know!

July 21, 2015:
Just a reminder for our Championships Basket Raffle Fundraiser. We would like to have all donations to the age group coordinators by this Friday, July 24th so that we have time to put them together. July 20, 2015:
We wanted to send a note to continue to keep everyone updated on the progress of the basketball court efforts.

First off, I'd like to again thank those members that have supported and contributed to to the fundraising efforts. We have raised just under $13,500 up to this point. This amount does allow us to move forward with the plan to put a court in somewhere at the club. We are in the process of communicating with the town to find out where we can out the court in compliance with conservation and wet land laws. They are coming out at the end of next week to walk the land and answer our questions.

We are also finalizing a few different quotes that vary in location, size, material and fencing.

While the current $13,500 allows us to move forward, it is a bit limiting based on some of the estimates that we have received. Please note that fundraising efforts are still ongoing and all donations are still very welcome!

The goal is to finalize the location, firm up the contractors and have the court done in time for us to be able to use it as the season winds down. We will then have it for all of next season and for many years to come.

Please reply with any questions.

Any additional pledges can be made out to CS&T and mailed to Mike Dubuque at:

23 Main St.
Westford, MA 01886

He can be reached at 617.839.7750 or mikedubuque@me.com.

July 15, 2015:
For those of you participating in the Clay Court Classic this weekend, the brackets and match times are out!

We have emailed all of the brackets with match times for each age division. Please email me at keak@bc.edu if you/ your child will be unable to make the match so that I can inform your opponent and make alterations to the brackets- I will most likely be unable to reschedule the match, as there are a lot of matches going on for the entire weekend, so please try your best to make it!

Reminder: Sunday at 5:00 pm there will be a BBQ at the pool to celebrate the end of the tournament! All participants and their families are welcome, please bring your own food to grill and a side/salad/dessert to share with everyone!

Feel free to email me with any questions! I look forward to a fun-filled tennis weekend!

On Thursday, all those going to Canobie must meet at CS&T at 4:00pm. We plan to leave by 4:30pm. Since we will be at the park during dinner time, please make sure your child either has money to buy dinner at the park or has something packed to eat. Additionally, it is always good to pack a towel, a bathing suit and any epipens or inahalers. If your child needs an epipen or inhaler or has some other medical condition, it is always good to let the chaperone know prior to leaving the club, just as a precaution. We plan on leaving the park by 10:00pm and hope to arrive back at CS&T by 10:45pm or 11pm at the latest.

If you can not make the meet this Saturday, there is now a sign up form in the lobby of the club. Please sign this form only if you are NOT able to attend the meet.

Finally, if your child/children have been swimming on the team but you have not completed a sign up form, please do so ASAP. You must fill out a sign up form (which can be done at the front desk), or else we will not be able to place them in the meet this weekend.

We hope everyone has been enjoying the first week of practice! While we understand that there a lot of other activities and sports finishing up for the school year, we would appreciate it if everyone did their best to improve their practice attendance. With our first swim meet only a couple of weeks away, it is so important that all the swimmers spend as much time as possible getting back into shape.

Additionally, a word from our dive coaches, Jenny and Chris:

Attention all divers/gymnasts/dancers or anyone interested in joining the dive team- please come down to dive practice every weekday from 5:45pm-6:45pm (right after swim practice). Once morning practice begins, diving will be held from 12-12:30pm for new divers and 12:30-1:15pm for experienced divers. Hope to see you at practice! No experience is needed.

May 27, 2015:
Hello members,

After discussing the Canobie trip with some members, I realized that there were a lot of conflicting events on the previous date that would interfere with kids' ability to go to Canobie. I've decided to change the trip to Thursday, June 25th (the first day of morning swim practice) from 4:00pm-10:45pm. As a reminder, you can sign up by asking the greeter or MOD at the greeter desk. The price is TBD, but more information will provided closer to the date.

Thank you,

Elyse Desrochers

May 26, 2015:
1. We have changed the team suit this year. Unfortunately, the style of suit that we ordered last year is no longer available. We have changed to a similar style. In addition to the red stripe on the side of the suits, there is also a white stripe going down the side on the new style. It is not necessary to purchase the new suit if you have suits from past years that still work well.

The suits and other CS&T apparel can be ordered online this year. The link is: https://triconsports.tuosystems.com/stores/cst and can also be found on our wesbite under a link labeled "Swim Team Store".

In order to have all the bathing suits delivered in time for the first swim meet, the online store will be closing on June 7th. Any order that are placed after that date will not have the CS&T logo.

If you are unsure about what size to order, we have a sizing kit available at the club. Ask the manager on duty (MOD) and they can help you out.

Please note: Even if you wrote your name down on the paper during sign ups on Monday you will still need to log online and order the bathing suit there.

2. If you were unable to stop by yesterday during sign up hours, you can still sign up for swim team/lessons and tennis team/lessons. Head over to the greeter desk and a greeter can assist you.

3. The Canobie Lake Park trip is June 25th (Rain date Monday June 29th) from 4:00pm-10:45pm. Kids must be 9 or older to attend. To sign up, head over to the greeter desk and the greeters will assist you. The price is TBD, but another e-mail will be sent out with more information.

4. Emily Blagg and Ella Krikorian are bringing back Story Time, an old tradition. Story Time will be every Thursday from 1pm-1:45. Emily and Ella will read a book with the children and there will also be a fun follow up activity. Story time is targeted to kids 3-7, but all ages are welcome. If a child is under 3, please accompany them. There are sign ups posted around the club if you are interested in signing your child up. If you have any questions, you can contact Emily at emilyblagg5@gmail.com.

5. As a reminder, June 8th is the first day of swim team. Swim practice runs from 3:30pm-4:30pm (ages 12-17) and 4:45pm-5:45pm (ages 6-12) M-F. On June 25th, morning practice begins and practices are from 9:00am-10:00am (ages 6-12) and 10:15am-11:15am (ages 12-17) . Swim lessons begin Monday, June 29th.Tennis team and tennis lessons begin Thursday, June 25th.

Thank you!

May 21, 2015:
Hello CS&T Swim Team Families,

We need your help again this year! As you may recall, our swim meets are not run by paid officials. Our meets depend on the families of the participating clubs to play an active role. At CS&T we ask that each swim team family (those with kids in the swimming program) volunteer for two (2) “roles” throughout the swim season. These roles are fairly simple and can be a fun way to watch the meets (plus the kids love seeing us actively participating in their events). Plus, by participating you avoid the $100 fee assessed to those swim families that do not volunteer. Below is a description of the various roles, dates for the swim meets, and instructions to log-in to volunteerspot.com to sign up. If you have any questions regarding sign-ups or trouble with the website, please contact the swim coordinator, Lou DiStasi, at 617-756-9210 or ldistasi@comcast.net

Instructions:
We're using VolunteerSpot (the leading online signup and reminder tool) to organize our upcoming activity.

Please sign up for CS&T Swim Meet Volunteer Signup!

Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
1. Click this link to go to our invitation page on VolunteerSpot: http://vols.pt/ET43Xm
2. Enter your email address: (You will NOT need to register an account on VolunteerSpot)
3. Sign up! Choose your spots - VolunteerSpot will send you an automated confirmation and reminders. Easy!

Note: VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually.

Roles:
· Volunteer Check-in Coordinator – Your job is to make sure everybody has checked in that is volunteering for that particular meet. You will need to be there a bit early. Once there, you will hand out stop watches and check off each volunteer that has arrived.
· Bullpen – Your job will be to help organize the swimmers prior to their heats. You will be provided with a list of swimmers for each heat. Once the racers are asked to go to the bullpen, you will sit them in order according to their lane
· Timers – Each lane will have 3 timers. Your job is simply to time the swimmer in your lane from the gun to the finish. Each of the three times is recorded and the middle time is accepted
· Concessions – Your job will be run the concessions table…sell food, drinks, etc.
· Runner – The runners responsibility is to grab the time sheets from each of the 6 lanes after every 8 races and bring those sheets to the electronic scorers room
· Computer Input – For home meets, we will be in charge of entering the times for each of the swimmers into our racing software. Those volunteering for this task should have some experience with the software program.
· Floater – You will be an extra. If somebody does not show up or a spot is not filled, you will be asked to fill that spot.

Schedule:
· Saturday, June 27 (Away meet)
· Wednesday, July 8 (Away meet)
· Saturday July 11 (Home meet)
· Wednesday, July 15 (All Stars)
· Saturday, July 18 (Home meet)
· Wednesday, July 22 (Colonial Classic)
We will also have a meet against Russell Mill and will be hosting Championships. More details will follow for those meets.

Thanks,
Lou

May 20, 2015:
Hello Chelmsford Swim and Tennis,

This year we are implementing a membership bag tag program. Each family member will be asked to show their membership bag tag when walking by the Greeters Desk on the way in to the club. While we do not have a Greeter’s Desk at the Tennis Courts the Tennis Staff will be looking for the bag tags at the courts as well. The Board of Governors has been concerned for a few years about Non-Members using the club facilities. From a safety and control perspective we think this will be a low impact way of differentiating between members and non-members. We are hopeful that this will provide a measure of protection and make it a little easier for the Greeter's to do this part of their job while politely sending the message that we are a Member Owned Club and our facilities are for the use and enjoyment of club members in good standing. These membership bag tags will come in the form of a plastic “credit card” sized tag that should be permanently attached to your cooler, swim/tennis bag or other item that you regularly bring to the club.

We will have a table set up on Memorial Day for you to pick up the cards for your family. There is a preview of what the bag tags look like below. It is also our hope that these tags will be a source of pride and a nice way to celebrate the 50th year of operation for the Chelmsford Swim and Tennis Club.

May 20, 2015:
Hello Chelmsford Swim and Tennis,
As you may or may not know The Colonial League is now using Hi Tech Software to run the swim meets and we are looking for a member to volunteer to be our expert.

This software is used for the following primary functions:
1. For each club to share the roster of swimmers per event prior to each meet.

2. To keep track of the times during the meet.

3. To score the meet as it is in progress.

The Colonial League has asked that all member clubs designate a Technology Person (preferably two people in case of a conflict) to learn the software and be available to lead the team of volunteers at each home meet that will do the input and produce ribbons. If you are interested in doing this for our club or getting more information about this please contact Alycia Howe at membershipinfo@chelmsfordswimandtennis.org and she can provide additional details about this volunteer position. If you are a swim team parent this will of course cover your volunteer requirement.

Thank you very much.

CS&T
